The apartment, located also in a building from the 19th century, came providentially with many of the original features like soaring ceiling height, fishbone parquet flooring, and intricate stucco detailing, providing a captivating foundation for the renovation and restaoration.
The design ethos revolved around creating a contemporary space within this historical context by juxtaposing the stately atmosphere with high functionality, use of natural materials and warm hues complimented by the mid 20th century furniture pieces. Much attention was dedicated to preserving and restoring as much of the existing elements as possible, especially regarding the stucco and the fishbone parquet floors where bigger repairs or replacements were carefully matched to the existing to create a uniform look and a continuous experience. To maximize the functionality, the limited space was cleverly optimized with built-in cabinets to discreetly conceal ample storage, ensuring a seamless blend of aesthetics and practicality.
An artful selection of vintage designer furniture pieces from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s punctuate the space, curated with an eye for iconic names like David Rosén, Isamu Noguchi, Folke Bensow, and Charlotte Perriand. Additionally, the meticulously curated art collection features works by Isabella Ducrot, Inga Lovén, and Johanna Aalto. This ensemble not only elevates the interior but also encapsulates a timeless sophistication that seamlessly bridges the gap between past and present.
